Kerry Wins!
…the Superbowl!!
The outcome of the last Washington Redskins game before an election has correctly predicted the outcome of the presidential race every time since football came to the capital city, going all the way back to 1936. If the 'skins win, the incumbent party wins. Well, Green Bay put Washington away this afternoon, presaging an electoral win for John Kerry. I knew it all along, but it's good to see some scientific evidence to bolster my prediction.
(By the way, what is it with Kerry supporters who think Bush is going to win? Talking with my aunt yesterday she expressed this same sentiment. This thing is absolutely deadlocked, I would think both sides would be confident.)

I have to say I feel the same as your aunt. I am hoping Kerry will win, but I won’t be surprised if he doesn’t. To me it doesn’t look deadlocked. All the polls (well the big ones anyway) say Bush, it’s close but he is ahead in all of them. I would say it was deadlocked if Kerry was ahead in a couple and Bush was also. Also, living in Florida, home of the hokey-counting republicans, I can’t say I know a single democrat or other Kerry voting person who isn’t a friend or relative of mine.

Hey Malissa, thanks for commenting! I love new peoples.
And buck up! Although I expressed the same doubts you have about winning FL (”In Florida, I think more of the people who go to the polls will intend to vote for the Democrat, and once again that won’t matter.”), fret not for the nation. The reasons that this race is tied, despite a point or two Bush lead in polling, has to do with the historical fact that undecideds vote against the challenger more often than not, and that higher turnout, as many are expecting this year, generally benefits Democrats. Now, all this can change any given year, but we won’t know until Tuesday night (ihopeihopeihope), so until then, head confidently in the direction of your candidate! Wagons to the stars and whatnot.
And everyone remember to check out electoral-vote.com every morning! That’s where the real action is at.

It is that displaced Red Sox fatalism that had to go somewhere…

National polls mean zip, zero, zilch until we can get rid of the electoral college. It will all come down to those people in swing states who can’t make up their minds. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t want to trust this election to people who are still undecided!!

I think many Kerry supporters are pessimistic because Gore won in 2000 and Bush still took the white house. The Republicans seem to be better at the underhanded shenanigans like voter intimidation and disenfranchisement. So, the deck seems stacked.
