Peering Into the Snarky Soul of Osama
Osama bin Laden, not dead despite the president's assertion that we'd get him, dead or alive, released a new tape recently to laugh in our collective faces. Amazingly enough, the mastermind behind the murder of 3,000 Americans in the worst attack in this country's history, is not only alive and well, he's got time to see Fahrenheit 9/11! I don't understand how any American can find that remotely acceptable. He's laughing at us.
Last night on some show the "experts" were speculating as to the mention of Sweden as safe from al Qaeda attacks. No one could understand why. If you ask me, if Osama is referencing "My Pet Goat" then he just as surely could have read Ron Suskind's NYT article about Bush's obstinance faith, which featured this anecdote:
The problem, everyone agreed, was that a number of European countries, like France and Germany, had armies that were not trusted by either the Israelis or Palestinians. One congressman — the Hungarian-born Tom Lantos, a Democrat from California and the only Holocaust survivor in Congress — mentioned that the Scandinavian countries were viewed more positively. Lantos went on to describe for the president how the Swedish Army might be an ideal candidate to anchor a small peacekeeping force on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Sweden has a well-trained force of about 25,000. The president looked at him appraisingly, several people in the room recall.
"I don't know why you're talking about Sweden," Bush said. "They're the neutral one. They don't have an army."
Lantos paused, a little shocked, and offered a gentlemanly reply: "Mr. President, you may have thought that I said Switzerland. They're the ones that are historically neutral, without an army." Then Lantos mentioned, in a gracious aside, that the Swiss do have a tough national guard to protect the country in the event of invasion.
Bush held to his view. "No, no, it's Sweden that has no army."
The room went silent, until someone changed the subject.
Osama is ready for his own blog, I think.
Kidding aside, though, what the hell is this guy doing even being alive? Why is the president running for re-election on the platform that only he is strong enough to fight terrorists, when he has not only failed to take out the man behind 9/11, he's actually ignored him in favor of creating a terrorist breeding ground in Iraq. Bush supporters are right when they say that this election is fundamentally about who "gets" the War on Terror™®. They're just sadly mistaken in thinking the answer is W.

How does everyone think that we should have gotten Usama bin Laden by now when we could get get the Unibomber for 10 years and he was within our own borders?!!?

Hm, for some reason I don’t remember the most highly trained fighting force in the history of the world hunting the Unabomber.
I love how you can always tell a Fox News watcher by their spelling of Osama. And remember to watch out for those homicide bombers…
