Not the Iraq war front (it's probably to the benefit of my mental health that I don't personally know anyone fighting this time around), but the same-sex marriage culture war front. The news is good.
Fellow Rhode Islander David Grenier made the trip to Cambridge Sunday night/Monday morning in a beautiful, if logistically ill-conceived, gesture that he chronicles here. Check it out.
When I drove through Providence tonight, I was much more aware of the architecture and space issues there. You know, when you’re so used to it, it disappears into the landscape. Since I’ve been reading your urban planning blog, I see the city differently.
Dave’s posting is pretty funny, and as an individual who also generally tends to do things without actually thinking them through, it seemed like something I could’ve personally have done myself. It is a great day for civil rights, but the battle has just begun. With bigots like Mitt Romney now trying to change the state constitution to designate marriage as a union between and man and a woman it could be a long uphill battle before homosexuals actually have the same rights.
And KissyO, my friend Victor is visiting me from Peru and we have been walking around downtown quite a bit and I’ve never really noticed the architecture before either. I really do live in a beautiful city.
