Slow ‘Puter 2

I just installed Service Pack 2 on Windows XP (Pro) and startup takes about a full minute longer than it used to. I debated a while whether or not to put it on, since I consider myself among the more careful computer users, and I didn't think I'd need the extra security features promised in SP2. I think I made the wrong choice.

Also, I'm reminded how obnoxious Microsoft is, since they added IE icons all over the place and put stuff in my favorites without permission. I don't even use IE!

I use a Mac at home and a PC at work. I can safely say that SP2 is the biggest abomination known to man. The big ’security’ fix? By default, Windows firewall practically disconnects your computer from the outside world. It’s about one step away from the ’security’ fix of yanking out your ethernet connection. AIt’s almost amusing when you think about it…

Yes yes, as soon as I can save up the membership fee, off to the cult of Apple I go.

My primary computer is my Mac. I put SP2 on my PC (I insisted that MS send me the free disc) and haven’t had any noticable problems with it. Though like I said, I don’t use it much.

I have a 3rd machine that I’m going to play with Linux on for a while, and if I like it, the XP machine is being deprogrammed as well.
