Think of it as a “tag and release” system…

…so we can keep an EYE on YOU…

Due to the failing of RIPTA to provide me with an economical and environmentally sound method of transportation to and from work, I have been commuting by car approximately one hour each way, Monday through Friday. I hate it, but I've been getting really good at spotting and remembering interesting license plates. Here I share with you my list.

Rhody plates:

BIVALV
CEMENT
QUAHOG
WILLIT
SOXGRL
BATMON
TRIP
THATCH
JUSTRI
NKTOWN
SHARK
FLXAPL
SHPWRK
ARREST
SEABIZ
SUNAMI
WTPOOH
GONG
IGUANA
BOWMAN
ACT 1
CARPDM
BOX
BGOOD
SEEBRZ

Out of staters:

GOSOX1 (New York)
SAIL RI (Michigan)
GANSETT (South Carolina)
TO NPT (Connecticut)

Is it obvious which part of the state I commute to?

The answer to Em’s question is a county, which I think they have in other states (except Louisiana, where counties are called parishes). In true RI fashion, though, this county doesn’t actually exist…

I think we may have a regular feature in the works here… send submissions to bil@bilherron.com!

  5. James Says:

Do they have to be in RI? On the way back from Boston yesterday I saw “NGNEAR”.

  6. Bil Says:

    I don’t get that one…

hey! license plates! 6 comments! rhode islanders love em! its nuts when at work i have to have people fill out things w their plate numbers. if theyre not from ri, they always have to go outside and LOOK! imagine… not even knowing your own license plate number.

i dont get that one either, btw.

Oh. Engineer? I think that’s it. Clever… All I want is a single letter B with numbers plate, but the fricken governor won’t give me one!

(seriously, you have to write a letter to the Governor to get a certain type of plate in RI)

  9. James Says:

I wondered why it wasn’t “NGNEER.”

What’s with RI and vanity plates, anyhow? It’s like a minor religion in your state.

And btw - I kid because I love. I spend enough time and $$$ in RI and have had enough jobs in RI to be an honorary citizen.

Actually, I forgot the most important one! Thats because I saw it a while ago on Hope St. in PVD - B 666, Bil’s most wanted plate.
