TiVo, How Warm is Thy Teat

Since we missed Christmas here on the site, I'll wish Jesus a happy belated birthday now, and I hope you all enjoyed your holiday. I had probably one of the best Christmases of what is supposedly my adult life. Luckily, I missed all the blog hyperbole about how a shadowy cabal of liberal Hollywood types who may or may not be Jews are destroying America via nativity scene removals and forcing "Happy Holidays" down our collective Christian throats. Whew, dodged a bullet there.

Now, to the important matter of what "stuff" I got from Santa, this will surely be remembered as the TiVo Christmas for me. I'm not that big on television, but I do like some shows, and I'm developing an allergy to commercials, so I'm all about the TiVo. Plus it taped Aqua Teen for me without me even asking. That was after it thought I was Spanish, though (everyone's read those "my tivo thinks I'm gay" stories, right? I know, so 2001…) Unfortunately I do keep zoning out and not fast forwarding through the commercials which really defeats the purpose. And I thought it automatically skipped commercials, but it doesn't, which is a disappointment (remember my burgeoning allergy). Now I can't figure out for the life of me what the big deal about skipping commercials is, since VCRs have had fast-forward buttons since, like, a million years ago.

(I'm also a little disturbed that my TiVo may have been assembled by a now tsunami'd Southeast Asian. Seriously, this bothers me.)

Man, that's a downer. I'm going to watch four consecutive episodes of West Wing to make me feel better.

If you ever get tired of Tivo, try the Cox Digital Video Recording service, free install and free first month and it doesn’t need a phone line to update it’s listings, tape 2 shows at the same time and about 70 hours worth of storage. It can’t delete the commercials, yet…

I thought the Q got rid of comment spam?

    More comment spam…

I just got the Cox service a couple weeks ago, and I love it. I never relized until now how often HGTV reruns the Painted House!

It also allows you to download the recordings via Firewire to edit and burn to DVD. I haven’t found anything on television worth taking that kind of effort for yet though.

Hahah, I was going to say the same thing, you guys beat me to it. My new policy is anyone who gets by the Q can’t possibly be spam.

Grow 5 inches! Vioxx for everyone! Want a new Rolex?

    My apologies.

In the future I’ll keep my friendly “comment spam” to myself.
