Let the Free Market Feed the Indonesians

As David Sucher, of the linkable-if-only-the-urblog-survived-host-transfer(-and-neglect) City Comforts Blog, so aptly noted, this is "why libertarians have little political impact:"

Don't send tax dollars to help tsunami victims…

Every dollar that the government hands out as foreign aid has to be extorted from an American taxpayer first. Year after year, for decades, the government has forced American taxpayers to provide foreign aid to the victims of every type of natural or man-made disaster: from the Marshall Plan to reconstruct a war-ravaged Europe, to the billions recently promised to fight AIDS in Africa, to the countless amounts spent to help the victims of earthquakes, fires and floods — from South America to Asia.

That was in today's ProJo. David was linking another Randian saying something similar, which just amplifies the point. Government and private aid together won't bring back the thousands of human beings who lost their lives, but every dollar that goes to alleviating suffering in Asia is worth it. Stingy libertarians and compassionate conservatives can suck it. (read that last link. Seriously)
